CARDIFF - Fri July 19th 2013

On 18th the small tug Tioga B arrived at Penarth.  In the next week or so she will be carry out plough dredging and levelling in the outer harbour entrance to Cardiff Bay.
Two arrivals on 19th:  tanker Bro Distributor from Milford Haven with oil products for the Valero Terminal, she returned to MH on 20th.

Photographed arriving from Warrenpoint.  She tied up at Number 1 Berth, not sure if she discharged the final part of the timber cargo she had loaded in Riga or if loaded steel products??.  She sailed the next day for Corpach.  UPDATE: another picture added below -
28th May 2014, departing Cardiff for Barry to complete discharge of timber that had been loaded at Riga.

BARRY - Thurs July 18th 2013

Since the last post for Barry (on May 1st) the port has been fairly quiet:  The chemical tanker Eships Quest has called 4 times - on May 3rd, 15th & 26th and July 4th.  The Stolt tankers have gone a a bit quiet - Stolt Tern came in from Rotterdam on May 3rd - sailed for Antwerp.  She was back again on May 15th, this time from Wilhelmshaven - sailed for Rotterdam.  Stolt Dipper arrived from Rochefort on June 14th, sailing for Antwerp.  The multicat workboat Alec D has been in and out a few time recently, she is currently at Swansea where she is working on the RNLI pontoon at Mumbles Pier.
On July 11th Deep Diver 1 came back in from Arklow under tow of the tug MTS Valiant.  Valiant sailed for Brixham on the same tide.

The gaff rigged ketch Irene was the last sailing ship working on the Bristol Channel.  She was trading up until about 1960 ( I'm sure that I saw her loading coal at Barry around that time)  On this occasion she was in for just the one day before being the centrepiece of the Minehead Harbour Festival.  For more photos, her history and life up until the present, see her web site.

CARDIFF - Tues July 16th 2013

On 13th the sand dredger City Of Cardiff was back, this time from Swansea (via one of the dredging grounds) she discharged at Hansons Wharf and sailed for Avonmouth later the same day.
The 14th saw the arrival of Thun Globe from Milford Haven with oil products for the Valero Terminal, she returned to MH on 15th.
Two arrivals on 15th: City of Cardiff was back again this time from Avonmouth (via the dredging grounds) she discharged at Cemexs' Empire Wharf and returned to Avonmouth later the same day.  Chemical/product tanker Chemtrans Alster came in from Rotterdam, she discharged at the Number 1 Oil Terminal and sailed for Ellesmere Port on 16th - missed this one so no photo. CARDIFF - Thurs July 11th 2013

On the 10th, the sand dredger City Of Cardiff came in with a load of sand for Hansons, she went back out to sea later the same day.

HMS Mersey (P283) the last of the  River-class patrol vessels built for the Fishery Protection Squadron of the Royal Navy.  More infomation HERE .  I don't know the reason for her visit, she berthed on the Kings Wharf, so maybe just a crew change/revictualling(?)  She returned to sea on 13th.

On 7th Aasvik arrived from Belfast with a cargo of stone aggregate for the Pontoon Wharf, she sailed for Port Talbot later the same day.

Two arrivals today:  the dredger UKD Orca from Avonmouth, she lay over until 14th, then carried out 3 days dredging of the main entrance channel to Cardiff docks and sailed for Newport on 17th.

CARDIFF - Weds July 3rd 2013

On 2nd July the Russian cargo ship Vladimir Noskov arrived from St Petersburg and unloaded (steel?) at the Seawood Shed. She sailed later the same day, initally to Blue Anchor Bay to await orders then a few days later to Antwerp.  Night time arrival and departure meant no photograph.
Two arrivals on 3rd - Sand Harrier made another visit with sand for the Cemex Ltd, Empire Wharf.  She returned to sea later the same day.
