BARRY - Thurs July 18th 2013

Since the last post for Barry (on May 1st) the port has been fairly quiet:  The chemical tanker Eships Quest has called 4 times - on May 3rd, 15th & 26th and July 4th.  The Stolt tankers have gone a a bit quiet - Stolt Tern came in from Rotterdam on May 3rd - sailed for Antwerp.  She was back again on May 15th, this time from Wilhelmshaven - sailed for Rotterdam.  Stolt Dipper arrived from Rochefort on June 14th, sailing for Antwerp.  The multicat workboat Alec D has been in and out a few time recently, she is currently at Swansea where she is working on the RNLI pontoon at Mumbles Pier.
On July 11th Deep Diver 1 came back in from Arklow under tow of the tug MTS Valiant.  Valiant sailed for Brixham on the same tide.

The gaff rigged ketch Irene was the last sailing ship working on the Bristol Channel.  She was trading up until about 1960 ( I'm sure that I saw her loading coal at Barry around that time)  On this occasion she was in for just the one day before being the centrepiece of the Minehead Harbour Festival.  For more photos, her history and life up until the present, see her web site.
